Dishonored Review – A Ghost you Are
I have played to Dishonored + Dlcs 2 and 3. I haven’t touched to the 1st Trial Dlc as there was no story at all, just challenges and when i am playing to this kind of game, i need a storyline to entertain me. So… I went directly for the knife of dunwall and the witches of brigmore, and it was a great adventure !
Dishonored is a game where you feel alive ! That’s a paradox as your government is hunting you ! As you failed to your primary mission which was protecting the queen… but nevertheless, your abilities and powers are granting you a freedom of actions rarely seen before in a game !
In Dishonored there are many ways to end every missions.
There are also many endings in Dishonored ! That’s the usual trademark of Arkane Studios since the beginning ! Back in time with Arx Fatalis there were several different endings, depending on whether or not you had thoroughly explored the story of the game !
I even remember having used a cheat to discover the best ending 😉
And that’s again the same plot used for Dishonored, you can either finish the game as the good guy or the bad guy, with several shades of grey in between ! But in a game like this which is played like a FPS, playing the good guy also means to use your weapons as low as possible.
So that’s kinda frustrating… as you have powerful weapons that can deal with most opponents in just 1-2 blows, or even using just 1 power to disable several enemies at the same time ! But then you’ll be awarded the title of bloody murderer… and that’s never a good thing 🙁
What i mean is you can’t be the same guy as in Serious Sam ^_^
So better play the Good Bodyguard
So if we follow the good story, you’re not here to unleash the fires of hell on everybody standing on your path. Instead you have to rely on your natural abilities to disable people, meaning using your bare hands to choke them from behind ! Sneaking in the shadows towards your prey.
And it’s true that the game become even more interesting that way ! As you have to analyze every routes of the guards, in order to position yourself to surprise them from the best angles. And the more you’ll advance in the game, the more the guards will be on red code alert, with even more complicated routes to analyze, and… they’ll be rarely alone too !
The lights, your shadow, the noise you make… everything is important in Dishonored ! Fortunately you’ll get magical powers from runes, that will make things easier ! Like a night vision to see people through walls, or a fast teleport granting you the ability to disappear at will !
All these powers granted by the runes also have levels, meaning the level 1 teleport will only get you to close distances, while the level 2 will grant you the access to the top roofs, or otherwise inaccessible places ! Like that you can also find hidden caches to plunder some good loots 😉
There are side quests in Dishonored and most of them will bring you more runes, which are used to acquire more magical powers, and also money which is used between each missions to buy new gear, or even upgrade what you already own ! Yes even your gear is level based.
You’ll also find blueprints during missions, generally they are hidden and you’ll have to explore and keep an eye out for them. But these blueprints will give your headquarters engineer the ability to create you new gear ! So don’t rush, take your time and enjoy the ride ! 😉
Graphics are good and have their own old style, like Arx Fatalis used to have old style graphics back in time. But in a game like dishonored you don’t focus too much on the quality of graphics, even if the work have been tremendous on the level of details ! Yes it looks like old school graphics, but there are so many little things that… it seems real !
The atmosphere, the ambiance… Dishonored knows how to take players from deep inside their guts ! You have to be careful and stay invisible ! Because well your character is not a bull, nor either is he a tank ! You can silently kill people or choke them, but that doesn’t mean they’re all harmless little kids ! Most of them will knock you down in 3 blows !
Playing the Dark Side of the Mask
The DLC’s are very interesting and bring several hours of gameplay with them ! 🙂 They are also harder than the original storyline, and you can actually select an even more harder level of difficulty ! Trust me Dishonored is not a hard game if you know how to make yourself forgotten. You can also save the game at any time, so dying will only occur if you’re relentless… and your death will be quick.
The DLC’s will help you to understand better your enemies ! As… you will live the life of the man, who actually stole the one from the woman you were sworn to protect ! You will understand his motives, his griefs and everything else inside his head. You’ll lead him towards a series of events, happening at the same time as you were living the life of the protector.
Two destinies that are bound to reunite the 2 best killers !
The difficulty i played on : Very Hard… trust me it’s not that hard.
How long is this game : 60 hours for me
Would i recommend it to a friend ? : Sure !
Did i pay for it ? : No… thanks Vuze ! 😛
