Lords of the Fallen (Torrent repack + dlc)
Not a lot of things to say on Lords of the Fallen… Basically it’s a little Dark Souls with interesting stuff of its own ! Game mechanics are also different, as i saw many people coming from Dark Souls complaining about the evading roll… The Roll should make you nearly invincible, but not in Lords of the Fallen. It stays a good way to avoid blows, but you have to time it even more precisely… Though once you have mastered it, you won’t use your shield so much, or only in close quarters.
And apart from that, Lords of the Fallen is far too short…
Count 20 hours on your clock including the Dlc…
And inside the 20 hours i am also counting around 4 hours of game lost in Crashes… Maybe you’ve heard about Lords of the Fallen instability ? Well i was fortunate enough to only get these crashes during the DLC Boss, which i finally overcame eventually… but during this optional fight, the game crashed at the very least 20 times ! So it was highly frustrating lol… Even when i managed to kill this bastard, i got a blue screen lol ! Not one from Windows, but one from the game ! Nearly the same color lol… Anyway i managed to kill him, even if i couldn’t save post fight, so it was good for me and i went back to the main plot.
As a proof lol… i even kept 2 screenshots of this boss The Keeper.
Let’s put some screenshots !
Lords of the Fallen is also easier than Dark Souls… why is that ? because if you invest experience points in magic like i did, you will quickly eliminate every foes in your path ! There is a spell called RAM and it can get you rid of every opponents wearing a shield ! There is also a healing spell, also acting as a decoy for opponents, and though it’s slow to heal you… It’s a Free and endless heal overtime. And there is the Quake Spell… summoning an enormous hammer slamming your foes lol… Well it’s great ! These are good ideas, but the challenge will be reduced as soon as all 3 are maxed.
Concerning Magic i’d like to add that… you can only spend 3 experience points in each of the spells. Even if new levels of magic also requires you to raise your Faith Attribute (and not that much compared to a Dark Souls…) you can quickly max them, and then focus all of your experience on physical attributes. And as you can also find Free spell experience points in treasure chests… That means some of these points will be completely useless if you’re already maxed out.
Boss are less deadly, but longer to kill !
Most Boss in Lords of the Fallen are quite impressive ! Thanks to the awesome graphics ! (even better than Dark Souls 2) And as in Dark Souls you’ll need to learn their move sets. Are they easier to kill than in Dark Souls ? Yes of course ! Though in Dark Souls 1 & 2 there were many bosses, that you could kill in less than 10 blows ! In LotF it’s another story lol… They got TONS of HP ! They’re also dealing less damage though… so it’s more a matter of managing your fight, breath… take your time… and don’t stress too much once it’s nearly dead to not screw your 3 last hits lol.
Dark Souls stays the hardest of course… as when a boss is near death he’ll become even more harder !
There’s an important point too ! In LotF there are hidden challenges for every bosses, meaning if you manage to defeat them in a certain way you’ll get the same item as usual, but with an Excellent Permanent Bonus on it ! Like a shield which can break other shields, a powerful scythe capable of killing every mobs from afar… useful against spellcasters ! And even a poisoned mace 🙂 Check on internet and try as much as you can, to defeat them the way to unlock these special items, because these are truly powerful ! Without them… game difficulty would be even more like Dark Souls.
Actually, if not for 2 boss whose challenges were a hassle for nothing, i always went for the hidden challenges ! These challenges will be also harder than cutting a simple gargoyle tail like in Dark Souls 😉 It’s more like… doing the entire fight without using your shield a single time.
Let’s put some screenshots !
Some people also complained about LotF being a slow motion version of Dark Souls… Well frankly i just found it more realistic than Dark Souls. Try to wear a Full plate armor in real life and then to roll… i expect you’re going to finish in the mud lol ! Same thing for weapons… lifting enormous weapons to attack requires time to swing them ! Remember that Dark Souls is more manga oriented, when you see your guy lifting a weapon bigger than you… and using it like it was the weight of a feather ! In LotF the biggest weapons can’t be even used one handed, and that’s closer to reality !
Less open world and a feeling of confinement
In Dark Souls you can fall from many ledges… in LotF there are many invisible walls ! You can still fall from many places, but there are also other places where the game don’t want you to get closer to the deep. I said i was feeling confined in LotF because… it’s not like in Dark Souls where you’re exploring a huge country filled with several areas to explore. In LotF you’re confined to a monastery and its whereabouts… so not of a lot of things really. It’s like the world you’re living in is about your fortified place and nothing else… Game is even shorter than Bound by Flames which was already short !
Let’s put some last screenshots !
Lords of the Fallen can provide you a good entertainment, but only for a week-end not more…
Though it’s true that you can replay the game 2 times… NG+ and NG++ and even discover new stuff 🙂
The difficulty i played on : None to choose, but it’s easier than Dark Souls
How long is this game : ~20 hours (counting 4 hours lost in crashes)
Would i recommend it to a friend ? : Yes but only if it’s a free pirate copy lol…
Did i pay for it ? : Are you kidding ? 😉
