Pharaonic (Egyptian Dark Souls)
Though if you’re looking for the latest torrent released in late 2016… it appeared to have disappeared ^_^ I guess the devs have noticed it and have asked PB to remove that link. And now you can only find a buggy Pre-release version on PB. Fortunately for me i was there right on time to download the latest version.
Don’t ask for it… As soon as i finish a game i’ve downloaded… i delete it !
But if you’re interested to download my savegames, you can find them here.
Basically ? Pharaonic is a Dark Souls in Egyptian territory !
The game mechanisms are obviously based on the Dark Souls series. Vitality, Stamina, Magic and the usual Roll to evade enemies. There are light and heavy weapons as well as armors. Fights are done in 2D like in Street Fighter, and you can roll through enemies, you’re not physically blocked by them.
The game itself is in Full 3D when you’re exploring each locations.
Still there is a sizable difference concerning the weight. In Pharaonic you can wear Heavy Armors and still roll like a nude guy ! The Heavy armors only have an impact on your Stamina… Meaning less attacks before being exhausted. Also the shields whatever their size do not impact your stamina, but they work the same as in Dark Souls, the more stability the better.
Even shorter than Lords of the Fallen 😉
Remember Lords of the Fallen ? It was also a Soulsborne game which could be done in 16-20 hours.
Then sorry but Pharaonic is even shorter ! Count just 13 hours and you’re done. Though i have to mention that this game is only 15€ ! And for 15€ you can find some Dlcs on the market which are even shorter.
Let’s put some screenshots !
As for Difficulty… Pharaonic is Unforgiving but still fair ! I would say it’s as difficult as Lords of the Fallen, and FAR EASIER than Dark Souls 3 for sure ! There are Boss in each locations but they’re not the biggest threat… No ! Most of them (apart from 1) can be taken out by the 2nd try.
No the real threat is coming from checkpoints battles.
You see… In Pharaonic there are enemies you can avoid, by rolling out a lot to distance them and they forget about you, and there are some checkpoints combats where you have to prevail to unlock the path, or to secure a chest filled with interesting things 😉 And in these fights you have to kill 2 to 4 waves of enemies ! I do remember some checkpoints where i died at least 5 times before succeeding…
Leveling and Learning Skills
Leveling is also different than in Dark Souls, you don’t get any attribute points because you don’t have any to invest in 😉 At each new level your vitality, stamina and magic are automatically increased. But you can find some Shabti Gems, either in chests guarded by checkpoints combats, or by completing little quests… most of the time running errands or finding stuff for someone.
Each of these Shabti Gems can be invested in one of the skills, and the maximum is 5 points. After having finished the game, i recommend you to specialize in one type of armor, one type of weapon, one type of shield and one type of Backpack ! Because there are not enough gems to max everything out. I’ve said Backpack… the backpack is using your Magic ! There are several different backpacks that can be either Offensive or Defensive… Casting magic projectiles or boosting / protecting / healing yourself.
As for the usual healing potions, it’s a Canteen filled of fresh water (we’re in the desert remember ?) but the uses are limited to 3 or 4 if you equip a special ring. Not as in Dark Souls 3 where you can heal yourself like 9 times ! Well of course the game is easier, so you don’t need as much healing support.
Let’s put some screenshots !
In case you were wondering where the savegame location is on your computer…
It’s in Users\(Profile)\AppData\LocalLow\Milkstones
And all the saves are in fact XML files… and when i looked at them, it seems like the guy who wants to cheat will be able to do it easily. Everything is clear inside… seems like you just have to modify some numbers to make yourself invulnerable. I think the devs should have encrypted these files…
Good little game for your Week-end
Pharaonic is very entertaining ! Even if it’s just for 13 little hours… Myself i died 65 times as the game keeps a count of them, not changing anything but i guess there is an achievement if you never die. It’s not really an Open World as it’s in 2D, but as in Dark Souls there are places you can go, even if you’re not from the required level. Like the cemetery in Dark Souls 1… where newbies were dead wrong to explore ^_^
Concerning the Maximum Level it’s 30 ! Might sound low compared to a Dark Soul… but again it’s only 13 hours, and i only became level 30 by the latest checkpoint fight right before the last boss. So… the Devs have counted it right ! I didn’t really grind experience…
…or only 5 minutes when i was close to level, before exploring a new location.
Don’t grind or just do it for 5 minutes to fill the experience bar if you’re close to leveling, and don’t equip the ring to get more experience… it’s useless considering you’ll be stuck at 30. And at Level 30 trust me… You’ll be strong enough to finish the game. I am a Dark Souls player but not as strong as some guys doing their Nude Run on Youtube… and i managed to finish this game.
Ok i died 65 times… but that’s the best way to learn 😉
Let’s put some last screenshots !
Pharaonic is a good little game to chew ! And personally… I hope a longer sequel will be created !
The difficulty i played on : None to choose, it’s soulsborne.
How long is this game : ~13 hours (counting i died 65 times)
Would i recommend it to a friend ? : Yes it’s cheap and it’s good !
Did i pay for it ? : Sorry :-/
