Path of the Damned – Kill Alpine Dragon
This post will be far shorter than the last one on the Adra Dragon 🙂
Some hours after killing the Adra Dragon, i went back to the White March at level 13. Then i discovered an Ice cave along a narrow path… and stumbled on another Big Dragon ! No ? not already another big dragon ! lol…
Ok so i pass the dialog fast… just to see how the fight goes, and then i’ll re-do the entire scene as i like to read everything in that kind of game ! Yeah playing to a RPG with a good background story is like a good book to me 🙂
Method will be different than Adra Dragon…
Because this time… there’s no way to kill the adds before the dragon… They’re all in front of him so attacking one of them is making the BIG DADDY moving… And i won’t be able to kite anything with so many adds !
I quickly die on my first attempt and on my second attempt, i sneak to inspect the place… And i notice a spot on the bottom left part of the cave, where i can position my team 3 behind and 3 on the front, and where nobody will be able to surround me ! Well… if i can’t kite the Dragon… maybe i can Tank it this time !
So… during my 5-6 next attempts i just tried to wait for all of them to come towards me, and have my party destroy every adds, until the dragon could engage me… but it seems it wasn’t a good tactic as i just couldn’t heal my tanks fast enough, and even if his special attacks were far less deadly than the Adra Dragon breath, it was nonetheless hurting me bad ! 😉 So after 30 minutes of attempts, i decided i would come back later…
Grew up one level and came back !
I took my time and cleared out some places of the White March including Galvino’s Workshop… and i’ve leveled to Level 14 ! 🙂 So i came back to Stalwart and thought… that maybe i should try this Dragon fight one more time 😉
The last attempts i’ve noticed that i could distract the attention of the dragon easily with… summons ! Like it’s the case for any mobs in the game i think… So…
- On my wizard i’ve loaded the “Essential Phantom” spell, along with the upgraded lvl6 version of the spell.
- As before the Adra Dragon fight, my whole party rested to gain the +10 Accuracy against Beasts…
Apart from that… nothing else ! no scrolls, no potions… just me my cock and my knife 😀
Kana ! You Saved us all man !
If i can’t kite the dragon…
if i kill the adds but then i can’t tank the dragon…
Then let the adds surround me and prevent BIG DADDY from getting closer !
That was my method this time ! The tanks were basically “Meat Shields” ! As long as the adds were all around me, the dragon couldn’t engage and was simply moving, trying to get closer but without succeeding !
My whole party had their Ranged Weapons equipped, even the tanks engaged with the adds, and EVERYBODY was targeting BIG DADDY ! Everybody but… the priest behind ! No i wanted him to cast his prayers against Paralysis, and to cast Group Bonus to Accuracy, Attributes and Deflection.
The secret was in the summons ! And on that particular case, my chanter played a fabulous role ! Kana leveled to lvl 14 as i said at the beginning… and he got his “6 phrases” summon where i chosen the Swamp Spore ! God this plant can turn the tide of battles as it did for this one !
The adds were surrounding me, the dragon couldn’t engage me, waiting for Kana to reach his 6 phrases i was summoning a wizard clone, or using one of my summoning artifacts (wurms… adra beetle… shadows… whatever !) to distract the dragon behind… And then Kana was ready ! Popped up the Swamp Spore and began to target the Ice Blights, which are… vulnerable to Domination 😀
Using the Adds against the Alpine Dragon !
I began to target and dominate every ice blights on the screen ! And what’s good is that domination spell is sticking for a long time ! So the dragon was annoyed by his own adds. When the swamp spore duration was over… i simply created a wizard clone or simply used one my summoning artefacts to distract the dragon until… kana was ready once more to Pop up another Swamp Spore ! 😀
And of course during all of this… my whole party was firing at BIG DADDY ! Also used some “Envenomed Strikes”… 5 of my 6 party members got that special attack, and though it can miss… when it lands it can be devastating even against a dragon 😉 So in the end… just doing this routine of…
- Let the tanks be hit by the adds
- Firing arrows and Crossbows
- Summon Clones, monsters to distract the dragon
- Summon Swamp Spores to dominate the Ice Blights
- Protecting my party with priest spells (paralysis and bonus…)
- Using Envenomed Strikes from time to time…
Alpine Dragon was down in… 10 minutes on the first attempt and that’s all ! Not that hard even on Path of the Damned + High Scaling… didn’t use Slow Mode this time. It was just a matter of distracting the dragon and watch the show lol…
